Hooks Construction selected as contractor for Boys & Girls Clubs Indiantown Branch
The Boys & Girls Clubs’ selection committee reviewed four bids submitted by local contractors based on a variety of criteria and qualifications including familiarity of the local market, experience with the Clubs and trust. The committee was unanimous in its decision to select Hooks Construction.
“We can’t say enough about how thrilled we are to have Steve on board with this project,” Boys & Girls Clubs Executive Director Anne McCormick said. “Not only is his reputation as a contractor impressive, he also genuinely believes in our mission and shares our values as an organization.”
A Treasure Coast native, Hooks understands the importance of giving back to the community. “Many organizations have come together to support Carter Park—it is a great example of what we can accomplish in Martin County when we work together,” Hooks said. The Carter Park project is a collaboration between the Martin County Board of County Commissioners, the Indiantown Community Redevelopment Area, Habitat for Humanity and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County intended to develop a rich and meaningful place in the Booker Park Neighborhood. “I am proud to be a part of this phenomenal project that will have a positive impact on the children of Indiantown,” Hooks said.
The new center will replace The Boys & Girls Clubs’ existing Indiantown location at the Indiantown Non-Profit Housing building where the Club currently provides programming for approximately 100 children in only 3,500 square feet of space. “We’ve definitely had to get creative with our space, sometimes using hallways or holding programs outside so we can accommodate more children,” McCormick said. The new Indiantown branch will allow the Boys & Girls Clubs to double the amount of children served.
With an expected completion date in late 2012, the facility will include a 10,000 square foot gymnasium, a performing arts stage, a technology lab, and kitchen. Other project team members include O’Campo and Associates,CAPTEC Engineering, and Lucido and Associates who will help to incorporate sustainable concepts in the building design and engineering.
Also planned for Carter Park are 40 energy-efficient Habitat for Humanity homes that will surround the Boys & Girls Clubs facility. “We have already selected the first families and we have several on a waiting list for the rest of the homes,” said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Margo Graff.
Groundbreaking for the Boys & Girls Club Indiantown Branch and the first Habitat for Humanity Home are anticipated in late 2011.
